Romans 1. The Gospel of Christ is the Power of God unto Salvation
This week I am reading Romans chapters 1-8. I wanted to share with you all my opinions and feelings of the lessons I have gain from these chapters. Please feel free to comment below if you have any thoughts as well.
1. Review Romans 1:3–4; Luke 1:31–32; 3:23–31. Explain in writing how Jesus Christ is both the son of David and the Son of God. If the Lord is both heir to the king (David) and to God, then in what ways can the Lord rightfully reign? Being the son of David, He was mortal; being the Son of God, He was immortal. Read John 10:17–18 and explain why it was essential for the Savior of the world to be both mortal and immortal.
The Savior Jesus Christ is the son of David because of the lineage of his father Joseph who is from the house of David. An angel came to visit Mary and proclaimed that she was going to have a child who will be called the Son of the Highest. Jesus being an heir, can rightfully reign over the people and both on Earth and of the Heavens. The reason it was essential for the Savior to be both mortal and immortal was because He willingly wanted to follow His Father's plan, and for that He needed to die for our sins.
2. Review Romans 1:15–20 and answer the following questions in writing:
o How did Paul feel about the gospel?
Paul with out a doubt in his mind, knew that the gospel was true. He professed it, lived it and suffered many trails testifying of it.
o In what ways can you show you are not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ?
The ways I can show that I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ is speaking to all I come in contact with about it. I usually start a conversation tying in some of my beliefs and then it sparks up conversations about my beliefs. Another example that I saw from a friend, was that she would hang favorite scriptures and pictures of the temple in her office for all to see. She also had brochures about the gospel.
3. Review Romans 1:21–32. Then respond to the following items:
o Make a list of the people’s sins by using the verses and the footnotes.
1. They did not accept Jesus as their Savior. 2. They were not thankful. 3. They were vain with their imaginations. 4. Their foolish hearts were darkened. 5. They felt they were wise, when indeed they were not. 6. They worshiped idols. 7. They let lust over come their bodies. 8. They would change the truth of the Lord in to a lie. 9. They would participate in homosexual practices. 10. They did not follow or retain the knowledge they knew of God. 11. They were wicked, malicious, murderous people. 12. They were proud boasters.
o Place a check mark next to the sins on your list that are still a problem today.
There would be a check mark on every single part of my list.
o What reasons were given for why people commit these sins?
The people would commit these sins because they were proud people. They felt that they were wise and cleaver enough not to be subjected to the laws of God.
o What does it mean in verse 25 when Paul said that people “worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator”?
The people had started to worship idols rather than the Creator. When anyone chooses to follow something or someone other than the Creator, then they will lose out on spiritual rewards. (Elder Russell M. Nelson, “Thou Shalt Have No Other Gods,” Ensign, May 1996, 15).
